Penny Pincher Tip #2 Check the Classifieds

When I am thinking about taking a trip the first place I check is the classifieds, like Kijiji.  Not the place you would expect?  Online classifieds have been my solution to travelling for cheap.  When I consult the classifieds I am looking for deals on airfare.  Believe it or not, but there are some individuals who are not big on travelling and for whatever reason they have a travel credit they want to sell.  For example, I found a person who had won two return tickets for anywhere Porter airlines flies.  The asking price was 500$ for the pair.  A quick check on the Porter website showed that one ticket for Newfoundland was just over 500$, making it a 50% off deal.  That was a winner.  Another example is a recent listing for two tickets with Pascan Airlines (a regional company) asking 400$ for two return flights and the average price per flight was 900$!  Being lucky enough to find one of these deals can definitely drive down the cost of transportation for a trip.  Like any any internet purchase, exercise a certain degree of caution.  I always make the booking with the person who I am buying from and only once my booking is confirmed do I pay them.  It guarantees that I am not being scammed by a credit that is not transferable or worst.  Also, this approach might not work if you have specific days when you need to take a vacation.  However, it can be great for a last minute getaway!
