5 Romantic Destinations

You can tell Valentine’s Day is around the corner by all the pink and red in the store.  Regardless of your relationship status, what is not to love about a Holiday axed on showing appreciation for the people in your life.  In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, here are my recommendation for 5 of the most romantic destinations around the world… Just in case you don’t have any plans yet 😉

1. Paris, France

It may be a cliché but how can you not put the city of love on a list of most romantic destinations!?! Let’s be honest, Paris has an intangible quality that melts your heart and makes you wish you could stay forever.  Heading to Paris, than a picnic under the Eiffel tower is a must, head to Cler street street to pick up your supplies.  While a visit to the ‘Lover’s bridge’ is nice, don’t add your own lock as they are a nuisance to the bridge structure and environment.

2. Udaipur, India

Dubbed the Venice of the East, this Indian city is fabled for being the backdrop to the James Bond film Octopussy (note it plays on repeat in many shops and restaurants).  There are number of restaurants along Lake Pichola that offer quiet, serene atmosphere with magnificent views of the Lake Palace.  If you want to really impress someone, than stay at the Taj Lake Palace.  It will make you feel like a true royal!  If you are not looking to splurge quite as much, have a nice dinner at Ambrai.

3. Buenos Aires, Argentina

The birthplace of the fiery Argentinian tango, is the perfect place for a romantic escapade.  Visit a show or take tango lessons and discover your inner dancer.  Buenos Aires also has a great food scene so plan to discover the local cuisine either through an organized food tour or by following your sense of smell!

4. Malé, Maldives

When I was planning my Asia trip last year I was looking at all possible destinations that were a short flight from Kuala Lumpur.  The Maldives came up as an option, and although the ticket was fairly reasonable it was near impossible to find a place that would fit in my shoestring budget.  It was a pass this time around but it remains that ethereal place of perfection.  No better place to escape to for some quiet time with your significant other.

5. Venice, Italy

Gondola rides, Italian food, beautiful architecture, what else is there to say? Much like Paris, I had to put Venice on this list.  Spend your days walking the canals and discovering the small shops, or participant in a mask making workshop and bring home a custom piece.  While the gondola rides are pricey, it is the quintessential Venetian experience so go ahead and splurge.
