If you want to escape to Europe without ever leaving Canada, or the United States for that matter, than look no further than Quebec City. I hadn’t been to Quebec City since I was very young (and prior to any travel abroad) and it was only when I returned recently that I could really appreciate how the architecture and style of the old city really transports you to a quaint European village. If you are stopping in the city for a day (or two) here is a recommended itinerary to get you seeing the major highlights.
- Start the morning at Le Cochon Dingue (46 Boulevard René Lévesque Ouest) for a breakfast filled with authentic Canadian flavours.
- Walk to the Plains of Abraham (835 Avenue Wilfrid-Laurier) to see where the historic battle took place
- Continue on to La Citadelle de Quebec (1 Côte de la Citadelle)
- Drop in at Chez Ashton (54 Côte du Palais) for their poutine, which is deemed the best in the province
- Head to the Chateau Frontenac (1 Rue des Carrières) to visit this world renowned hotel, walk along the water and then grab the furnicular down
- Walk to the Museum of Civilisation (85 Rue Dalhousie),
- Head to Quartier Petit Champlain for shopping and dinner at Le Lapin Sauté (52 Rue du Petit Champlain).
- If you are up for it grab drinks at l’Inox (655 Grande-Allee) to conclude your evening.
If you have additional days to spend in the area check Ile d’Orleans or the Montmorency Falls.

The old city is breathtaking with cobblestone streets and century old buildings. If this is your only stop in Quebec, stop by Chez Ashton for an authentic poutine. Check out my proposed itinerary! […]
