1. Fish n Chips: The best dish is by far found on the food trucks that line the coast. The fish should be freshly caught, the potatoes hand cut, and it should be served piping hot from the fryer. Don’t forget the tartar sauce!
2. Raw Oysters: You need to try eating a raw oyster at least once in your life and Halifax is the perfect location. Freshly picked and with a wide variety of choice, you will find everything from a smaller starter oyster to larger ones for the more experienced.
3. Cow’s Ice Cream: The apparel is iconic, but the ice cream is even better. When the weather is hot, expect long lines as this popular store/parlour, but the cool treats are worth it. Options include Moo Crunch and Fluff n Udder.
4. Shortbread: if you have a sweet tooth check out Susie`s Shortbreads. They have an amazing selection of shortbread and some very tempting cupcakes as well. You can grab a coffee as well to accompany your dessert.
5. Alexander Kieth’s India Pale Ale: Locally brewed and a source of great provincial pride, Kieths’s IPA is the only beer you should be drinking when in Halifax. Definitely check out the Brewery tour (see my post here), it will take you back to in time.
