I was super excited when I made the decision to head out West and finally check out Seattle. I had heard so many great things about the city that I couldn’t wait to experience it for myself. While some things I loved, there were also some not so great things. So here is my rundown of hits and misses.
HITS
Bubble gum alley: It was so much more than I expected. While seeing so many gums on the wall was gross, it was also super fascinating.
The Pike Brewing Company: The beer is great, but the free tour is even better. The tour guide was super knowledgeable on beer making and provided a great lesson in beer history.
Seattle Antiques Market: With the waterfront in construction, the antique store was the perfect way to spend some time rummaging in bins for neat finds. Plus, you are guaranteed to find atleast one item to leave you nostalgic of your childhood.
EMP Museum: One word= AWESOME. I have no musical skills and I still managed to have a blast playing drums and guitar in the music rooms.
Victoria Clippers Ferry: If you have the chance to grab the ferry to or from Victoria (British Colombia)… do it! Great way to see the coast line and super time efficient.
MISSES
First Starbucks: Yes, it’s cool to see where the phenomenon began but other than taking a picture, skip the line and get your coffee at one of the ‘hundreds’ of other locations around (only mildly exaggerating!)
Space Needle: Every time I see a tower, I feel obligated to take the elevator up in order to get some great shots of the city. Frankly, I could have skipped this one out. It’s not super tall and quite expensive for the views you get. Ride the Great Wheel instead.
Waterfront: With the massive amounts of construction over-taking the waterfront, it was a total dud. I would love to go back some other time when no cranes are in sight.
Parking: Grrr! This was super annoying! To be honest it was probably more of a unique situation but the place I stayed at said there was parking nearby for free. WRONG! There was free parking but it wasn’t nearby and a nightmare to find a free spot. If it can be at all possible, don’t have a car when visiting Seattle!
