From the time I had booked my ferry ticket to visit the Magadalen Islands, I knew that I had to go kayaking.  The islands are beautiful to visit, but the views from the water are even more spectacular so I could not pass it up.  You can do a zodiac ride or even take out a larger boat, but kayaking gets you the closest to the water and you can get right up close to the shore.  For my excursion I opted to book with the Centre Nautique de l’Istorlet.  They had excellent reviews and appeared to be professional and safety concious.  They have a variety of time available for the excursion but I strongly suggest booking an evening outing.  It’s cooler on the water and you get to see the sunset, win-win!  I met up with the team at 6PM for the 2 hour outing.  We spent time learning the safety procedures and getting our equipment sorted, but once we were on the water it was just magical.  First of all it was a super calm evening, so it was easy to paddle through the water without being afraid of flipping over. Secondly, the scenery surpassed what I was expecting.  We got to see the large jagged cliffs, explore through small caves, and even spot a waterfall.  The knowledgeable staff guided us along the water and kept us informed of what we were seeing.  While you don’t need to be in excellent shape to do such an outing, let’s be real your upper body will get a work-out from paddling.  If you don’t feel super secure in a kayak or would like an extra boost, opt for a tandem kayak with a friend.  I find those so much easier to handle.  I have to say I was super pleased with the experience and would highly recommend to anyone who wants to see the island from a different angle!
