On Saturday night I headed over to the Montreal Casino for dinner and show, Broadway II. I got super lucky with these tickets. I attended the live taping of a popular Quebec show and audience members were given a pair of tickets. How awesome is that?!?!
I’ve been to the Montreal Casino a few times before to see shows and to engage in some light gambling…. To be clear, I don’t endorse gambling, so you will find me burning through a 5$ bill at the penny slot machines, after which I conclude that a fancy Starbuck’s drink would have been a better use of my money (and more gratifying as well). In any case, I regress from my actual purpose, which is to discuss my experience at the Dinner & Show.
I arrived as per the ticket for 7PM (show starts at 8:30 PM) and I love the fact that there is free, underground parking at the Casino. Especially at this time of the year when it’s cold and slushy outside. The dinner and show takes place in the Pavillon de Quebec where tables are arranged on the floor of the theatre. It’s a bit of an intimate experience between yourself and your neighbour since most tables sit 6 to 8 people (3-4 per side). There is a fixed menu that includes a selection of appetizers, mains, and dessert with coffee or tea. I thought the choices, especially for the appetizer was quite nice. Sometimes it’s just a salad or simple soup, I opted for the salmon prepared three ways (see photo below). For the main I had beef tian, which was a bit disappointing. The green salad on the side was topped with a weird parmesan crumble that was not very good. Our table neighbour had the grouper and the chicken, which seemed much better. The dessert had three parts: a lemon meringue, chocolate cake, and vanilla éclair. I don’t have the biggest sweet tooth, so I wasn’t a huge fan of the dish. Of the three, I thought the éclair was the best. A nice touch, was the live music throughout the dinner. As the meal wrapped up the show started.
Lasting 90 minutes in duration, the show features a compilation of the best in Broadway. It’s a fun concept for those who aren’t very familiar with broadways, yet will likely know a song or two since they are the most popular. The singing was great, and the costumes and set was well done considering how fast paced the show is. The dancers were dynamic and the crowd seemed very appreciative. After the show, I did try my hand at a few slot machines enjoying the live music that was happening at the casino. I left a few dollars richer (a rarity leaving a casino), so overall a successful evening!
