The Saguenay region is a real playground for outdoor enthusiasts and let’s be real, it’s so damn beautiful! I finally invested in a bike last summer (shout out to Specialized Bikes!) and I couldn’t wait to use it to explore new destinations. During my stay at Village Vacance Petit-Saguenay (see my post here!), I spent an afternoon discovering the small town of Petit-Saguenay. There are lots of bike trails (over 400km!) in the area but be warned, many (if not most) are for intermediate/experts because of the many uphills. The town is very friendly towards bikers and many of the local bed and breakfasts or “gites” welcome individuals who are on multi-day bike trips. You will also find a small parking area with some picnic tables and bathroom facilities in the down town area to leave your car.
One of the fun, easy and scenic route is the one that starts in the ‘downtown’ area of Petit-Saguenay and follows the river along rue du Quai until you reach the fjord. The terrain is flat and the roads are pretty quiet, so you don’t have to worry about cars driving dangerously close to you (my biggest fear!). At the end of the road there is a beautiful lookout point, a local artist shop, bathrooms, and there is an access point to the Fjord de Saguenay National Park. For the park, you need to by your entry pass ahead of time since there are no tellers.
