These are the best dairy-free sugar cookies you will ever make!
Nothing says holidays like a batch of sugar cookies. I’m not much of a baker so I want recipes that are as easy as possible. I also need recipes that are dairy free for my nephew. This sugar cookie recipe is perfect because it meets both those requirements. It uses one bowl, there is little baking technique involved, and it uses a combination of Crisco baking sticks and Melt vegan butter. To decorate the cookies I use a super easy mixture of water and powdered sugar. You could also add in some vanilla extract or other flavor. Combine the ingredients until you get the consistency you want for decorating.
Also a quick word about sprinkles, I used some Wilton sprinkles that were safe for my nephew. But not all of them are, you need to check their labels for the “may contain” ingredient list.
Ingredients for the Recipe
1/2 Cup Melt Vegan Butter
1/2 Cup Crisco Baking Sticks
1 Egg
1 Cup White Sugar
3 Cups Flour
2 Teaspoons Baking Powder
1 Tablespoon Simply Organic Vanilla Extract
Instructions to make the Sugar Cookies
- Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cream together Melt butter, Crisco shortening, and sugar at low speed.
- Add in egg and vanilla. Mix on low until incorporated.
- Slowly add in flour a few tablespoons at a time while mixing on low. Add in baking powder.
- Continue mixing until the dough starts to come together into a ball.
- Place the dough onto a floured surface and roll out to your desired thickness (I prefer 1/4″ thick).
- Note that the dough will be very soft. If too difficult to handle place in the fridge for 15 minutes.
- Cut out dough using cookie cutters and place on a baking sheet.
- Cook for 7 minutes, but check after 5 minutes. Duration will vary based on the thickness of the cookies.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet and then transfer to a grill.
- Store in a container and they should last for one week.
Note: You will notice that the cookies smell like coconut when you take them out of the oven because of the Melt butter, but don’t worry they will not taste like it.
