Festin Culturel

Community is important in creating a positive and safe city. Living in one of the most ethnically diverse city in North America means that community building activities are that much more pivotal to harmonious living. This week-end I attended such a community event hosted by my city designed to get families and friends outdoors and enjoy some games, live shows, and fireworks. Ethnic food was also being showcased with restaurants selling a selection of their food fare for everyone to enjoy. While I think that ‘cultural engagement’ is too often reduced to culinary country hopping without any substantial understanding of the actual culture, my inner foodie took over when I spotted Congolese food.  I sampled curried goat, a latino poutine, chicken korma and so much more.  It was a lovely day to get outdoors and so nice to see so many residents taking advantage of the event.
