Yup, it’s insanely cold here and we could live in igloos if we were so inclined. While the days are getting longer, it seems that we are still in for a few more sub-zero days. So what to do when the thermometer dips? Here are a few ideas:
1. Visit Museum Pointe-à-Callière (350 Place Royale) : With so many museum in Montreal it’s hard to pick one, but I recommend checking out the Ancient Greece exhibit at this museum. They have some amazing piece and it easily transports you back a few thousand years. If you have kids in tow, than opt for the McCord Museum as they have a great toy exhibition.
2. Skating on Beaver lake in Mont-Royale Park: Embrace the cold and slip into a pair of skate. Beaver lake is a wonderful outdoor rink with hot chocolate waiting to warm you up. If you are not a Michelle Kwan on skates, than you can still get some physical activity by either snow shoeing or cross-country skiing around the mountain.
3. Whiskey tasting at Whiskey Café (5800 Boul St-Laurent): Nothing like strong whiskey to warm you up. If you are looking for sultry location to stay warm, Whiskey Café is the place. Select the whiskey tasting on the menu for a sampling of fine liqueur. Cigar amateurs can bring their stash to smoke in the enclosed cigar lounge.
4. Indoor Surfing at Oasis Surf (Suite 01, 9520 Boulevard Leduc): Brand new, this is place for those who are in absolute denial about the snowy conditions. Why not go surfing in the middle of January? You can also enjoy food and drinks at the ‘seaside’ restaurant while looks at other people making a fool of themselves while they try to surf.
5. Ice fishing in the Old Port of Montreal: A recent discovery, the ice fishing village is a great way to discover fishing without heading to far from home. The all-inclusive packages make it super easy and yes, the fish caught can be eaten!
6. Chess playing at Café Pi (4127 Boul St-Laurent): I love this unique place. Dedicated to chess, this coffee shop is a great place to spend time in the warm and exercise those brain muscles.
What are your strategies to stay warm?
