Festive German Christmas Market in Quebec City

If you want to get into the holiday spirit then a visit to a Christmas market is a must.  The German Christmas market in Quebec City should be at the top of anyone’s list. Located at the Place et Jardins de l’Hôtel-de-Ville, it is easily accessible by foot from inside Old Quebec, or you can drive in and park underground at the Hôtel-de-Ville parking lot.  It takes place from November 22 to December 23, 2019.

As I expected, the Christmas market features a number of small wooden kiosks all lined up displaying an array of yummy food and original gifts all produced by local artisans.

When the temperature drops, I am always a sucker for warm apple cider or mulled wine.  The Winterbar in the Christmas market is the perfect place to grab a hot beverage while browsing the different vendors.

One of my favourite touches were the small cabins with cosy blankets and pillows where you can sit down to enjoy your food and drinks.  There were also outdoor fire pits to warm up cold hands. The thousands of twinkle lights decorating the trees around the market makes for a magical atmosphere.

Of course, the festive feel is not limited to the German Christmas market, all of old Quebec is dressed in holiday spirit. From Santa Clause greeting families in Petit-Champlain to the outdoor ice rink, if you want to step into a real life Hallmark Christmas movie, Quebec City is the destination of choice.
