Oh so Sweet! Chocolate Places around Montreal

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, there is no better time to indulge in some chocolate.  Whether you are planning a romantic date night, or a casual meet up with friends, these six chocolate places around Montreal are perfect.  From creative salty dishes that incorporate bitter dark chocolate to savouring a rich and creamy hot chocolate, you are guaranteed to find a place to satisfy your cravings.

1- Chocolats Favoris ( 837 Mont-Royal Ave E, Montreal)

Chocolats Favoris is where I head to for a chocolate covered ice cream.  The one downfall is deciding on which chocolate flavour to chose.  I don’t like overly sweet chocolate so my personal preference is salted caramel or good ole fashion black chocolate.  You can also select the flavour of ice cream between vanilla or chocolate soft serve.  During October they also offer pumpkin flavoured ice cream which is like eating a slice of pie!  If you don’t have a Chocolats Favoris near your place or you have kids that keep you at home, then head to your local grocery store.  Chocolats Favoris sells cans of chocolate that you heat up in boiling water for a fondu night at home.  Just add some fruits and marshmallows for a fun evening.

2- Juliette et Chocolat (1626 Saint-Catherine St West, Montreal)

Every time I visit Juliette et Chocolat it takes me forever to order because everything on the menu looks so good.  Having tried a few different items like their hot chocolate, crepes, and trifles, the standout dessert is easily the brownies.  I love that they are served warm from the oven and so moist.  They also have quite the brownie variety aside from classic chocolate.  I think the blondie and salted caramel are the best.  Make sure to get a coffee or tall glass of milk with your dessert, you will need it!

3- Cocoa 70 Eatery (2087 Saint-Catherine St, Montreal)

When a restaurant makes their own chocolate, you know you are in good hands.  Cocoa 70 is one of the first chocolate restaurants in Montreal and really delivers on quality desserts.  Since it is difficult to pick out a standout item, I recommend ordering the Bring-it-all-on Sharing Plate for two people.    Be prepared for chocolate pizza, chocolate fondue, chocolate waffle, hot chocolate, …. Bring your appetite!

4- C’ChôColat (1255 Bishop St, Montreal)

While C’ChôColat has similar menu items as the other chocolate shops, two unique desserts are their bubble waffles and insane mason jar milk shakes.  I had the King Kong bubble waffle that features vanilla ice cream, banana, caramel sauce and pecans.  I loved the texture of the waffle with the crunchiness of the pecans.  The caramel sauce was not too sweet for my liking and having the bananas there made it just a tad more healthy!  A great option if you are less fond of chocolate than your partner.

5- Chocolato (7240 Taschereau Blvd, Brossard)

Chocolato is a perfect addition to the chocolate restaurant landscape.  It brings together terrific chocolate foods with a cool coffee shop vibe.  Similar to Chocolats Favoris, you get to pick your chocolate sauce to dip your ice cream cone.  In colder weather you can also pick any of the chocolate flavours as a base for hot chocolate.  Aside from ice cream and hot chocolate, Chocolato has fondue, banana splits, crepes, and frozen cakes you can purchase.  A highlight for me is the atmosphere.  I love the casual couch seating alongside the more formal tables.  There is also an outdoor fireplace which is a really nice touch in colder weather.

6- Lindt Chocolate Shop (705 Saint-Catherine St W, Montreal)

If you are looking to bring the chocolate home with you, then a visit to the Lindt chocolate shop is a must.  The first time I visited the Lindt shop I was so surprised at how many varieties of chocolate flavours they had.  Thankfully you have the option to sample the chocolate and select the ones that you like the best.   I like straciatella and dark caramel sea salt (of course!).  There is also a small coffee bar in the shop and I recently tried their hot chocolate.  I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised that it tasted better than your local Tim Hortons hot chocolate.  I honestly found it was really well-balanced between the sweetness of milk chocolate and bitterness of dark chocolate.  Definitely worth it to check out!
