Conference and street food

Today was my first day of the International Congress on Obesity. The morning plenary session was about the effects of diet composition on ghrelin and diet satiety. Lots of graphs and tables to conclude that protein will keep you fuller for longer. I am probably essentialising the research quite a it but that was the main takeaway. Then it was obesity through the lifespan and promoting interventions in children and older adults. What I thought was interesting is that exercise, specifically resistance training has a more positive effect on disability and frailty then nutrition. Neither nutrition or exercise has an effect on mortality though. So if your nearing 60years old grab some bean cans put on Netflix and start doing some weights. The last part of the day was about the healthy environment which was a bit of a wash. Nothing spectacular.

Tonight I went out to eat on Jalan Alor at one of the hawker stalls. It was quite overwhelming at first but finally selected a busy place with lots of locals. I had fried rice, veggies and satay. The meat was delicious, marinated in green curry. I also got to see more of the city and still surprised how laid back it is. Not the bustling Asian city I was expecting! Tomorrow I am looking to sample some of the Indian food available. I hope everyone is staying warm back home!

    Yummy! 🙂

Feels similar to NYC by the pictures … Sky rise modern buildings and then the “little Italy / Chinatown” feel of the street food.
