A Photo Diary of California’s Big Sur

There is a reason why Big Sur is such an important tourist attraction in California.  The winding roads along the precarious cliffs, while the churning blue ocean contrasts the lush green landscape.  Driving this part of the coast in unlike any other experience and  I don’t think any words I could write would do it justice.  Needless to say, you must add this destination to your bucket list.

I was a bit unlucky during my trip since it followed the landslide the effectively closed a section of Highway 1.  Although I would have loved to do the complete road, I still managed to go as far as I was allowed and then back-tracked before detouring around the mountains and resuming the road on the other side of the now gone bridge.

If I have one piece of advice, other than bringing a camera, is to head South to North.  I think this works best because it makes pulling off the road a little easier without worrying of oncoming traffic.  Trust me, you will be stopping a lot more often than you think with all the amazing views this road has to offer.  Other than that, take your time and prepare to be absolutely blown away.

I had a TON of photos of Big Sur and picking the best was an arduous task.  In the end I settled on 16.  Hopefully if you cannot visit, you can live vicariously through the images.
