Wow… so much to write about! Ok, so I woke up at 5:30 in the morning to climb a mountain to see the sunrise and visit a temple. It was freezing in the morning but I managed to convince myself to head out. Well the whole journey uphill was about an hour and the first 30 minutes it was paved and a nice slope, but the last half was just rocks and a steep incline…”I feel like Moses climbing the mountain to get the 10 Commandments”. My heart was pounding, legs burning and breathing hard, all before 6:30AM! As it turns out, I was in the best shape of my group and was the first to arrive at the top (go racewalking!). We got sit down and watch the sun rise and it was really beautiful. They also played this hindi/yoga music in the background and I felt like I should be doing sun salutations or meditating. Afterwards, we got some hot chai and visited the temple. Interestingly, about 15 minutes after I got to the top, this OLD woman wearing SARI and FLIP FLOPS, showed up to pray…. Kudos to her! On our way down we got a visit from a family of monkeys, which was nice. Wanting to keep the momentum going I headed to the market for some shopping. This was my first solo outing in India… yikes LOL… It actually went well although there were some interesting moments. I was looking for some silk art and was having a nice chat with the artist in his shop. As always, they like to tell you their life story and in his case how he works for an Italian company designing tarot cards and Kama sutra cards… “look look (as he pulls out a deck of Kama sutra cards), this is my work, look at all the details”… Detailed indeed 😉 Nice fellow and I got a piece for a decent price. A little later in my shopping, I was outside a shop looking at some pants when I hear the shopkeeper, “Hello Biagina. What a beautiful name”….. Sheer terror, utter amazement, complete confusion… Turns out he had seen my luggage tag on my backpack I was carrying! So yeah, always a good time. That night was the camel safari, although for the record it wasn’t actually a camel, cause it is the one with one hump… But whatever, same difference 🙂 I expected it to be really uncomfortable but it was actually good. It was 1.5 hours ride out and half way the guy handed the reins over to me and explained how to control the camel (riighht). So let me say thay I cannot control a camel, cause at a fork in the path, my camel (jon jon) decides he is too cool for the group and goes rogue. Luckily both ways ended up at the same place… JonJon also had some indegestion problem (reminds me of someone lol) and kept burping. At the end of it all, we were inthe middle of the desert (I feel like moses…. again) and got to see the sunset, eat by the campfire and watch gypsies dance. Really amazing experience. So yeah, the next day we headed to Udaipur, where I am writing from…. more details about that in the next post/
