Welcome to the jungle. Ok so after spending months debating the anxiety inducing decision to sleep in the rainforest, I am glad I am. This morning I left my hotel in Kuala Lumpur at 5:30am and travelled by taxi to the low cost carrier terminal at the airport. This is where the flights with Air Asia fly out. Wow, it’s amazing what the company has accomplished in such a short time. There must be atleast 2-3 flights leaving every 5min to all parts of Asia and Australia. It was packed with locals (I was one of 6 white folk) and the gates were busy. The flight went well and it was a quick taxi transfer from the airport to where we are staying, Sepilok Forest Edge Resort. I was expecting a 30 minute journey deep into the wilderness. Wrong, it’s actually more exotic than wild. The resort is super clean and well maintained with trees all around. They have a nice sitting area for drinks and food. The chalet is also very clean. After arriving I headed off to the Orangutan sanctuary. Thank god I opted not to where my leech socks. People were walking around in flips flops and sundresses. I was worried there would be no animals, but the feeding time was amazing. I think we saw almost all the monkeys that live in the sanctuary. I am so happy I decided to buy a new camera, I got great pictures. The monkeys were so funny posing for the camera and eating the bananas. Unfortunately I have no pictures to share now because the only thing I could bring was my camera. It was so worth it. Now I am lounging having a drink, than supper and a quick dip in the pool. There is a balcony attached to the room so will spend tonight listening to the sounds of the rainforest. Tomorrow is the sun bear sanctuary and the rainforest discovery center. Again I am so impressed with how friendly everyone is. One thing that I find hilarious is how nice the customs folks are, they NEVER ask any question about my trip and yet when I travel back into Canada I will get interrogated like a criminal and I am citizen. Go figure!
